Knowing she always wanted to go into medicine, Dr Annari van Rensburg completed her medical degree (cum laude) at Stellenbosch University followed by her internship and community service years in Klerksdorp. While she initially aspired to become a trauma surgeon, while rotating as a medical student, she was compelled by internal medicine. Taking the complaints of the patient and working towards a diagnosis sparked her inner investigator, and with her musical background, she was adept at identifying heart sounds and murmurs. This led her to a particular interest in cardiology.

After completing her studies, 2006 Dr van Rensburg then returned to Stellenbosch University to do her post-graduate in cardiology involving the clinical detective work she loves combined with the practical and surgical skills including ultrasound and theatre.

In 2016 she obtained her qualification as a Specialist Physician from the College of Physicians: CP (CMSA) and began her specialisation in Cardiology, for which she won the Helen Suzman medal for the best candidate in both the practical and theoretical exams, countrywide. Dr van Rensburg then went on to complete her Masters, for which her research topic was on bicuspid aortic valves. She was selected to present her research at the ESC (European Society of Cardiology) congress in Italy, the world’s largest cardiovascular congress.

She completed both her MMed and MPhil degrees, cum laude. Dr van Rensburg has presented at EuroPCR, the world-reaching flagship event for the interventional cardiovascular community, on more than one occasion, and has given presentations in Switzerland as well as in Mauritius. Dr van Rensburg has also done practical training in Hungary to broaden her expertise.

In 2019, after locuming for three years, Dr van Rensburg moved into private practice at Netcare Blaauwberg Hospital in Blouberg, Cape Town. Then, in 2024, Dr van Rensburg moved her practice to Mediclinic Durbanville Hospital, in Cape Town's Northern Suburbs.

As a cardiologist with an excellent grasp on the diagnosis of disorders of the heart and her compassion for patient education, Dr Annari van Rensburg aims to be an active participant in continuous learning, helping her patients understand and therefore manage their own diseases better. As a specialist in her field, Dr van Rensburg prides herself on being approachable and compassionate towards her patients while giving them the best possible care.
